Abstract

Based on observations made by researchers at SDN Tanjung Barat 04 Pagi, it was found that some students in grade V were less interested in Indonesian language lessons, especially in listening skills. This was caused by the inappropriate learning model applied by the teacher. As a result, students had difficulty in understanding the book as a whole and quickly felt bored during the learning process. To overcome this problem, a more appropriate learning model was needed, namely the read aloud method. This study aims to collect empirical data regarding the effectiveness of the read aloud learning model in improving the listening skills of grade V students. The method used in this study was an experiment with a nonequivalent control group design, involving 30 students as respondents. The results of the T-test calculation showed that the t count value = 4.91, which was greater than the t table = 1.69. This conclusion indicates that the research hypothesis was accepted, and it can be concluded that the class that implemented the read aloud learning model had a higher average score compared to the class that listened independently. Thus, it can be concluded that the read aloud learning model had a significant and positive influence in improving the listening skills of grade V students at SDN Tanjung Barat 04 Pagi.
